Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Essential. We understand the significant impact of our choices on the planet and future generations, and we are dedicated to making a positive change by leading the way in sustainable oral care solutions. We pride ourselves on providing a plastic-free toothpaste option that is earth-friendly. Our toothpaste tablets are more than just an oral care solution: they're proof of our unwavering commitment to a sustainable planet.

Plastic-free Packaging

Our pouches are home compostable and certified OK Home Compost and AS5810. If companies are claiming compostable packaging it could be green washing if they don't have these credentials as industrial composting causes confusion.  Please check your local municipality home compostable packaging guidelines as most don't allow disposal with traditional compost.

So What are the options?

 Composting Tips

Step 1: Organize and Shred the Packaging Start by gathering packaging marked with a certified home compostable logo into a compost bin. To accelerate decomposition, tear or shred the packaging into smaller pieces before adding it to the compost bin. Avoid packaging labeled as biodegradable, as it may not fully break down in your home compost.
Step 2: Mix in Other Compostable Materials To ensure effective decomposition, combine the home compostable packaging with other organic materials like food scraps and yard waste. This mixture creates a balanced blend of carbon and nitrogen, aiding in the breakdown of the packaging.
Step 3: Keep the Compost Moist Regularly water the compost to maintain moisture levels. Too little moisture can slow down decomposition, but be careful not to overwater, as it can also impede the process.

Step 4: Turn the Compost Every few weeks, turn the compost pile to promote aeration. This helps distribute oxygen and encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria, speeding up the breakdown of the packaging.

Step 5: Be Patient Allow at least 180 days for 90% of the plastic materials to disintegrate into pieces smaller than 2mm within the compost. Complete biodegradation typically occurs after 12 months. Once fully decomposed, the compost can be used in your garden to nourish plants. Remember to look for packaging with a certified home compostable logo and mix it with other compostable materials for optimal decomposition. With some effort, you can convert your waste into a valuable resource for your garden.
